Bilfinger Tebodin makes virtual reality real

In Russia, Tebodin has implemented a new functionality to provide clients ‘real’ insight in future buildings and facilities. Realistic 3D images of clients’ future assets can be generated with stereo panoramas visualization, via Autodesk A360 rendering service.

After experimenting with the virtual reality functionality, the engineers involved concluded that it is a convenient and helpful engineering tool. The main advantage of this tool is that it can generate a detailed and realistic visualization of the designed plant or building of the inside. The only equipment needed is a smartphone, access to internet and a set of 3D glasses.

’It does not require any special software. This navigation could not be simpler and is accessible to all participants of a project team. The tool is great to use in presentations and project discussions,’ outlines Mr. Vladimir Primak, Build Project Manager (EMEAR), Cargill Animal Nutrition.

This 3D tool is part of BIM technology, an engineering application which includes 3D models, plus all project information like materials, their physical characteristics and mechanical properties. BIM makes work more efficient for both clients and engineers. It improves the calculation of time and money estimates required for the construction, it gives clear insight in the project, saves money, and helps to bring ideas into reality.

The next level of the virtual reality tool – augmented reality – is now under development. The tool allows users to see the 3D model on screen and to turn and move it. Furthermore, it also shows the effect and reality of the 3D model at earlier project phases.
