The Gulf region’s largest Unilever factory opened in Dubai

Unilever recently commissioned its new personal-care products manufacturing plant at Dubai Industrial Park. The facility produces some of Unilever’s most well-known personal-care brands, such as Dove, Vaseline and Sunsilk. Spanning 100,000m2, this plant is the largest in the region, and is set to deliver the highest output of 100,000 tons per annum of liquid-based beauty and personal-care products per year, equivalent to approximately 500 million units.

Made in UAE
As a global consumer goods company, Unilever has a portfolio ranging from nutritionally balanced foods, to indulgent ice creams, affordable soaps, luxurious shampoos and everyday household care products. The new facility in Dubai will generate 180 products bearing the ‘Made in UAE’ label and will export 80% of them to 80 countries across Europe, the Middle East and North-Africa. The facility consists of production, administration and warehouse buildings. The design and construction phase took 26 months.

Sustainable Living Plan
This is Unilever’s first industrial project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and features state-of-the-art technology that not only delivers products to the market more rapidly, cutting lead-time by 80%, but also reduces waste and energy consumption in line with the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan.

About 25% of the energy required at the plant will come from solar power and 80% of the waste-water will be reused for agricultural and cleaning purposes, to ensure minimal environmental impact. Further measures include the sending of zero waste to landfill (non-hazardous waste) by partnering with reputable recycling companies with considerable expertise in environmental management.
