Business breakfast in Moscow: BIM technologies in construction

11/25/2019

On November 20, Bilfinger Tebodin together with Beiten Burkhardt held a joint business breakfast in Moscow. The topic of BIM-technologies in the construction market gathered over 50 Russian and international companies’ representatives.

Experts from both sides gave a broad look at BIM in engineering and construction, as well as its legal aspects. Digitalization has recently affected the construction industry a lot and caused the growth of  information modeling systems relevance.

Alexander Sivokhin, BIM coordinator at Bilfinger Tebodin revealed the latest BIM innovations and presented the 4D and 5D tools. Alexander notes: ‘Today there are several major problems in the construction sector: cost management, time management and lack of communications. When managesd properly, BIM allows you to solve project management problems such as the collection of initial data, predict investments, manage scheduling and monitor the progress of construction, solve problems related to communications and project risks.’

Irina Konanikhina, BIM coordinator at Bilfinger Tebodin: ‘Often customers do not know what they really need in the design of the future facility, they are simply not aware of the opportunities that BIM technologies provide. The main goal was to show them all the added value it might bring to their project and our capabilities in this.’ According to the expert, the main advantage of BIM technologies is that they create a common open data environment, available to all project participants. As a result, the risk of misunderstandings in communication is reduced. What is more, BIM helps to prevent errors in the scope of work estimating and to avoid conflicts in the design by using the virtual reality.

Representatives of Beiten Burkhardt spoke on the legal issues of BIM. As the speakers noted, today the global trend is that the public sector became the driver of BIM implementation. It was also mentioned that BIM model could be attributed to the know-how, as well as to the protected results of intellectual activity. In this case, if the rights holder has decided to keep the BIM-model in secret, the corresponding confidentiality should be maintained while working with such a model.
