1 million man-hours without LTI at our largest construction site

April 06, 2021

Bilfinger Tebodin is managing its largest construction site for Swiss specialty chemical company Clariant in Podari, Romania. In April 2021, a large team of more than 700 site workers has reached a record of 1 million man-hours without lost-time injuries.

The commercial-scale plant for the production of second-generation bioethanol from agricultural residues is planned to be accomplished by the end of 2021. During almost a year of construction, Clariant and Bilfinger Tebodin safety managers keep safety a top priority, also enabling safe workflow during and after the pandemic outbreak.

Over the past 12 months, excellent progress has been made on the construction site, and multiple milestones have been achieved. More than 700 workers on-site are currently focusing on piping, electrical and instrumentation installations, and completing the remaining civil works.

“Daily safety walks, weekly management visits, coordination meetings, and awards for safe behavior or initiatives are a common practice at Clariant’s site. I am proud of all subcontractors and every single worker, treating safety as a top priority”, comments Ion Soare, HSE manager from Bilfinger Tebodin.

“We are extremely proud to have achieved this very exceptional milestone. Our daily ambition is to have zero accidents. I would like to sincerely thank the entire project team for their tremendous commitment to safety”, emphasized Bernd Hirschberg, Project Director at Clariant.
