Lecture about Agile project engineering at Agoria symposium in Brussels

December 18, 2019

On December 5, 2019, Wouter van Gerwen gave a lecture on agile engineering solutions at the Agoria annual event.

Agoria is the Belgium Federation for the Technology Industry. The industrial technology division Food & Beverage faces volatile markets and an era of change regarding energy transition, circular economy and sustainable production processes. On top of that, they also face increasing awareness and regulations regarding environmental impact and footprint.

Next to the volatility of information, also the amount of values at stake with involved parties has grown substantially. The Agoria Food and Beverage division invited Bilfinger Tebodin to give a lecture about its agile engineering solutions to cope with these challenges. This took place at the Agoria annual event in Brussels.

Wouter van Gerwen focused on two aspects:
•    Project definition and option selection with stakeholder alignment
•    The support of digitalization techniques during the engineering process

Wouter explained our ‘Pit stop’ workshop approach that results, after a one or two day’s workshop, in alignment about:

•    The scope with boundaries
•    Purpose
•    Weighed selection criteria
•    Input-output logistics
•    Required functional unit operations,
•    Geographical orientation with internal logistics,
•    Limited amount of scenario’s,
•    Cost indication,
•    Project planning.

In such a session, we base all aspects upon facts and, to be verified, assumptions that are both shared and accepted.

Next, Wouter explained our 3D/4D BIM tools including scanning and virtual reality. Finally, he explained the opportunities for integrated connection with asset management and operations.

In the central hall, where all federation sections came together during a network event, Dennis van den Berg, did a great job in introducing the participants into our Virtual Reality experience. Again, this turned out to have a ‘learning to see’ effect that multiplied the effect of the lecture. This was proven by the many questions for information and enthusiastic reactions.
