The article ‘Tebodin focuses on technology and collaboration’ has recently been published in the latest issue of BULK - Solids Processing & Handling points out how Early Partnership and Virtual Reality applications led to optimal project execution so that the production could even start a few months earlier than originally planned.
Within this particular project the Tebodin client PPG Industries Chemicals invested tens of millions in the existing silica factory in Delfzijl. The expansion for the production of an innovative raw material for tires has been achieved by using modern technology. Various innovations have been applied in the new line. Both, fitting the new line into the existing installation and the tight planning posed strong challenges. In addition, the engineering took place during the execution while production continued.
Key success factors to complete these challenges successfully were the use of new technology such as 3D modeling in virtual reality and intensive cooperation based on trust and transparency using a new project approach. The new approach, referred to as the Early Partnership Model (EPM) by Tebodin, combines the pragmatic approach of construction companies with the general multidisciplinary quality of an engineering company resulting in cost efficiency through minimizing interface issues.
Next to that the application of 3D modeling helps to identify potential issues early and grants the opportunity to test the operability and maintainability of installations.
