On 17th of February Bilfinger Tebodin visited Graintek forum held in Moscow, Russia, where together with Clariant presented the first commercial-scale plant for the production of 2nd generation bio-ethanol from agricultural residues. The project is based on the Clariant sunliquid® technology for processing wheat straw into almost carbon neutral advanced biofuel. Bilfinger Tebodin helped its client to put the idea to life by design and management of building the first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in Romania.

Graintek is an annual forum and expo on grain processing & industrial biotechnology which put together the key players of the market. Topics of the event included gluten, starches, glucose and fructose syrups, bioplastics (succinic, lactic and other organic acids) and other value added fermentation products. Forum was held in hybrid format – online and offline – in compliance with all safety requirements. Over 70 international and local companies were presented at place including GEA, Vogelbusch, Gazprombank, RosselkhozBank, SibagroBiotech, DonBioTech, Petkus,  and others.

Eduard Khakimov, Business Development Director in Russia and CIS together with Svetlana Smayls, Representative of the Clariant in Russia, talked about the biofuels market, its trends and prospects, advanced sunliquid technology and its implementation in the new plant in Romania. Colleagues shared the news from the construction site and told about the challenges that the team had to face.

Eduard Khakimov comments: We see agro-industry as a growing sector in the Russian market and a key part of the national economy. One of the well-established trends in recent years is the development of bio and agro technologies. For us it is important to keep up with the times –market is perspective that boosts more investments in new projects. As we already implemented several projects in the industry and had experienced and prepared team, we are looking for some new challenges.’
