My first months as Junior Structural Engineer at Bilfinger Tebodin

After finishing my studies in Greece with the acquisition of my MEng in Civil Engineering, I made the decision to move to the Netherlands in order to enrich my education and get the opportunity to gain experience in projects of large magnitude. I decided to supplement my education with an MSc in Construction Management and 2 years later, I was successfully finishing my program and searching for a job. Finding a workplace where I would be offered space to show my potential as well as the chance to develop both professionally and personally was of great importance to me. After a talk with a friend who works at Bilfinger Tebodin, I realized that this company could offer what I was looking for. Recently, I completed four months as a Structural Engineer at Bilfinger Tebodin and I could not be happier about my decision.

The beginning

On my first day at our office in Schiedam, the Netherlands, I got a very warm welcome from my manager, my colleagues and my buddy, who introduced me at Bilfinger Tebodin and helped me get settled. On day two, I was already given small tasks and no later than a week, I was working on my first project! What surprised me the most was the team environment that I encountered. Both my manager and my colleagues are always happy to answer my questions and they all show genuine interest in my development by sharing their knowledge and experience with me.

My development

Today, four months later, working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment, where I am empowered with a lot of responsibilities and trust makes me feel I have already developed significantly. I have worked on the design of a biomass power plant that ensures sustainable heat supply, on the modification of the facilities of KLM and MARS, on a value engineering study for a new chemical plant for Mitsubishi Oil and Gas Company and on the design of an Air Separation unit for Air Liquide. Every day is like no other, with plenty of learning opportunities.

Within Bilfinger Tebodin, you get the opportunity to develop yourself in the way and the degree that you want. The company offers the tools for you to grow, like training opportunities, personal guidance and a friendly working environment, and the rest is up to your personal ambition and effort. Knowing that makes me feel confident and willing to work hard in order to achieve my goals.
