Kees Jongerius, Civil Engineer

How have you seen Bilfinger Tebodin change over the years?

I started working at Bilfinger Tebodin in April 1977. My neighbor, who already worked there, told me the company was looking for new colleagues so I went for an interview and the rest is history. I started my work as a civil engineer making designs on a drawing board. Now most of our work is done on the computer, so the level of digitalization within the company has been a big change throughout the years.

What are some of the things that have remained unchanged over the years?

The team spirit. When I started at Bilfinger Tebodin, I felt welcomed with open arms. This makes you instantly feel like part of the team. Colleagues help and support each other to get the job done. This team spirit is still in the company today.

What are some of the reasons that caused you to stay working at Bilfinger Tebodin for so long?

The main reason I have been working at Bilfinger Tebodin for 45 years is the fact that I always got pleasure out of my job. Working on interesting and varied projects that I enjoyed. Also the stability in my work throughout the years and the team spirit within the company are reasons I stay.

Could you share your career development within the company? What positions have you had?

I started my career as a technical drafter in the civil department. After some years, I expanded my experience with some steel structure expertise and I was regularly seconded at clients working on their projects. For one client, I was seconded for about 10 years and I enjoyed that very much. Being present on site and at the client, you get to see what you are designing being built in practice and that is exciting. Currently, I still work as a civil engineer. I wanted to be the best I could at my job and therefore always continued in this role throughout my years within the company.

I’ve started working in 1987, at a design and engineering company that later became Bilfinger Tebodin. It happened back in the year 2000, and was a big step forward in my view. This transition provided me with an opportunity to start working on big international projects with a special focus on automotive industry.

What stays is Bilfinger Tebodin’s fair attitude to employees, interesting creative work, large-scale remarkable projects, a professional team of colleagues.

What are some of the reasons that caused you to stay working at Bilfinger Tebodin for so long?

Our company has a dynamic environment and opportunities for constant development. Bilfinger Tebodin is a place where your ideas are supported. For example, while being the head of department for more than 10 years, I am able to still take part in electrical design for the project, as I enjoy doing that in order to maintain the practical knowledge.

Could you share your career development within the company? What positions have you had?

I started working here as a student, learning electrical design skills from experienced colleagues in the company. Over the years, I progressed in my career from the position of a designer to the position of a department head. Each step in my career came as a new exciting challenge. At the start, I had to gain electrical design expertise. After becoming the head of department, I was working on improving my planning and leadership skills to a next level.
