Chemicals

The chemical industry in North West Europe is sizeable and internationally oriented. In the last decades, many chemical parks have developed, through selling companies, from single-user to multi-user sites. In addition to the growing number of corporate identities, the sector increasingly focusses on products with a higher added value. At the same time, the number of investments is decreasing because of the economic situation. Major cost-reductions combined with a drive towards specialties and life sciences demand process optimization. However, safety and environment, and the transition to a biobased economy, draw most attention in this market.

Project: Hydrogen fueling station
Location: Rhoon, the Netherlands

Air Liquide opened one of the first public hydrogen fueling stations in the Netherlands that provides hydrogen for city busses and hydrogen cars in the greater Rotterdam area. It is situated in the Netherlands and is directly connected to the European hydrogen pipeline network of Air Liquide. Tebodin was responsible for the civil, structural and infrastructural engineering and the construction management and supervision as well as the environmental permitting, in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. 

Huntsman

Project: Keystone
Location: Rotterdam, the Netherlands

Huntsman is a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals. Tebodin provided the EPCm services for the Keystone project, the new addition to their MDI 2-plant. With this project, the production of their polyurethanes will even be cleaner than before, since the product is split and stripped, thus removing volatile gases and at the same time reducing energy use and CO2 emissions. For this project, 3D modelling has been used.

Project: long-term agreement
Location: Antwerpen, Belgium

Within a long-term agreement with BASF Antwerpen N.V., Tebodin did the basic engineering and piping engineering for several plant changes. Amongst others, Tebodin did the design for the expansion of BASF’s EO/EG plant, their piperazine flaker unit and lutensol storage.

Project: New Ink Plant
Location: Petrovskoe, Russia

Sun Chemical is a global producer of printing inks and pigments and leading provider of materials for packaging, coatings and plastics worldwide. For the construction of their new greenfield plant in Russia for production and distribution of solvent and water based inks, offset and other products, Tebodin Belgium was awarded the conceptual and basic design. This was a global cooperation with Tebodin Eastern Europe, which was in charge of the licenses, detailed design and total construction management.

Sabic Innovative Plastics B.V.

Project: Extension of production capacity Xtreme Lexan Resins
Location: Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands

Sabic, former GE plastics, decided to expand its Lexan Range of polycarbonate resins to meet the growing demand. Tebodin was selected for the conceptual and basic engineering and EPCm services of this project. In the first phase, their two interwoven standard production lines were disentangled and separate lines were created. In the second phase, a new facility with reactor, tanks, heat exchangers and automated big bag filling units were realized. Although the planning was very short, all completion dates were met, the plant was started up very quickly and the product quality was excellent.

Project: New tank storage and truck loading area
Location: Sas van Gent, the Netherlands

Feralco Nederland is a production location for water treatment chemicals such as Aluminium Sulphate and Poly Aluminium Chloride. For their new tank basin, Tebodin prepared a feasibility study, delivered the necessary permit documentation and prepared a basic and detailed engineering package for the civil, structural and architectural works. Also, Tebodin assisted Feralco with the procurement of the civil contractor and with the technical supervision of the civil, structural and architectural construction works on site.

Project: Stolthaven Moerdijk B.V.
Location: Moerdijk, the Netherlands

Tebodin has supported Stolthaven in the modification of the environmental permit for current and future activities on their site in Moerdijk. The activities are related to a new tank container terminal, an office building, a rail and truck loading station and additional tank pits.

Tebodin was awarded a contract for the engineering of two tanks for the storage of hydrochloric acid (HCI) and five tanks of toxic fluids, a total of 14,000 m3 storage capacities.

Project: Expansion of oiltanking terminal
Location: Terneuzen, the Netherlands

Oiltanking GmbH decided to build a new state of the art chemical and petroleum product handling terminal at Valuepark Terneuzen, in the Netherlands. In the preparation phase, Tebodin was responsible for the technical feasibility study, the permitting procedure and the basic and detailed engineering. Also, Tebodin took care of the procurement, project management and construction management. The terminal was realized in phases. For the extension of the capacity, containing a wide range of chemicals, the environmental permit procedure had also been successfully concluded.

Project: Plant expansion and new production line
Location: Delfzijl, the Netherlands

Increased capacity and flexibility for silica plant
PPG Industries Chemicals specializes in the piloting and commercial production of silica products for clients in sectors such as food and rubber. When PPG wanted to upscale their current production capacity and add a new production line for Agilon®, a patented modified silica for the tire industry, they asked Tebodin to provide engineering services and coordinate the multidisciplinary project team. This has resulted in a fully integrated and highly innovative second production line within the existing plant, which has begun production several months ahead of schedule.

Tebodin created a 3D simulation of the facility which made it possible to seamlessly fit in the new equipment, including the detection of possible clashes.

The engineering and construction were in the hands of a group of four contractors, who worked as an integrated team with the client and each other, with Tebodin in a coordinating role. This has enabled them to focus on common interests and make strategic planning decisions.
